Kamalapur railway station:
Among the Berger architects, Robert Boughey maintained a consistency in architectural vocabulary, technical excellence and aesthetics in his creatives, concrete frame structures and its honest expression through ribbon window, non-load-bearing partition walls and cantilevered veranda as are some examples that characterized Boughey’s design. An inter-marriage of spatial and structural innovation culminated in his outstanding designs of the Kamalapur railway station, which is remarkable for the open petal shaped canopy unifying a number of otherwise disjointed buildings an innovative expression through architectural forms.[2][3]
Architectural value
The station contains 21 ticket counters, and local tickers can be bought from 20 ticket counters. Tickets are available to go to India. There are two vudas, one for first class, and the other for second class passengers. The station has eight platforms and there are two restaurants in front of the ticket counters. There are also fast food shops near the ticket counters.

About Kamalapur Railway Station
It is designed by American architect
Robert Boughey, it was built in the north-east side of Motijheel in
Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, at the beginning of the 1960s. The
inter-marriage of spatial and structural innovation culminated in
Boughey’s outstanding designs of the station. Before its construction,
the land was a paddy field. It is the largest railway station in the
country and the most important terminal for transportation
between Dhaka and the rest of districts. The station is very famous with
its architectural value. It was built with an architectural marvel and a
lotus-shaped shell structure, covering functional buildings like an
umbrella. The country’s central railway station has 21 ticket counters,
eight platforms and a few station managers. Over 1000 people throng to
the station everyday to visit almost every corners of the country except
Barisal and Patuakhali as there is no train routes in the two
districts. Passengers can even easily collect tickets to go to Kolkata
in India. Maitree Express
is providing this service. Everyday, around 50 trains leave the
stations for various districts besides India. At least 47 local trains,
28 express trains and 24 intercity trains go through the station a day.
The place is also home to street child and stray people. This train
station is maintained by BD railway ministry.
